Italian Baroque composer, Domenico Zipoli (1688-1726) is best remembered as the most accomplished musician among Jesuit missionaries. All his works were greatly influenced by his religion and his Adagio for Oboe, Cello, Organ or Harpsichord and String Orchestra is an exciting addition to the repertoire. Having received lessons from some of the best composers of his day, including Alessandro Scarlatti, Zipoli embarked upon a successful career as an organist and composer. Scored for Oboe, Cello, Organ and Strings, Adagio is a calm, yet stately piece, often played today at weddings andfunerals. Zipoli 's Adagio makes for a sublime performance work for Baroque ensembles.
