Description :
A setting of five late poems by Friedrich Hölderlin written under his pseudonym Scardanelli. Described by the composer as Cantata for mezzo soprano and piano, the 20-minute piece explores the full range of Hölderlin's poetry from the religious to the comic, as well as themes of nature and Classical mythology. The vocal and piano parts are largely independent throughout and only occasionally coordinate, with the piano providing a continuous commentary on the texts.
