One of the most exciting composers of his generation, Jonathan Cole was awarded the Royal Philharmonic Society Composition Prize in 1999. “Tafos” is the Greek word for Tomb and was composed in memory of the composer, architect and resistancefighter Iannis Xenakis who died in February of 2001. “Tafos” is divided into 6 short movements, the first being a “call to arms”, the 2nd and 6th are marches, the 3rd and 5th are dances whilst the 5th is a lament. The pieces lastsabout 15 minutes.
