French composer, conductor and teacher, Jules Semler-Collery (1902-1988) studied at the Paris Conservatoire where he won many prizes. He became well-known as a composer and his works remain popular to this day, including his Barcarolle and Bacchanalian Songs for Tuba, Double Bass, Bass Saxhorn or Brass Trombone and Piano. Semler-Collery 's success as a composer has been proven by the inclusion of many of his compositions in the list of compulsory works at the Paris Conservatoire. The two movements of Barcarolle and Bacchanalian Song, adaptable for a variety of bass instruments, reflect their titles by useof a variety of musical features.
