One of the most exciting composers of his generation, Jonathan Cole was awarded the Royal Philharmonic Society Composition Prize in 1999. In “Go Tango”, fragments of various imaginary tangos are juxtaposed in an attempt to kick start a realtango. As these attempts become increasingly frustrated, the possibility of a tango resulting from them seems ever more remote. In the coda, a gentle Habañera emerges as if from outside the preceding musical argument.
