Description :
Despite the success of his larger works, Grieg was a miniaturist at heart, feeling more comfortable composing in smaller forms. His only Piano Sonata is a work of inimitable beauty, drawing on the melodies and harmonies of traditional Norwegian folk-tunes. The piano sonata was composed not long before the famous Piano Concerto in A Minor Op. 16, and there are many elements and moments of beauty which are mirrored between the two works. Despite the success of the Concerto, Grieg remained very fond of his piano sonata, often performing movements from it later in his career when he, subsequently, revised the sonata. For the advancing pianist, this work will provide a wonderful addition to your repertoire.
